I get the feeling that many people think “Yellow-bellied Sapsucker” is a made up name, used in comedy sketches and in the funny papers. There are actually four different sapsuckers in North America: Williamson’s, Red-breasted, Red-naped, and Yellow-bellied. The others are found in the mountain west.
