Maybe I’ll stop apologizing for not paying attention to the blog. I’ve got three or so posts’ worth of pictures, so you should be seeing them over the next few days.
Yesterday I had a quick walk at Lake Betz in Morrisville. Kinda branching out from the usual Seagroves Pond pictures, but it’s on my way to work, so I can stop there on occasion.
There were a pair of Great Blue Herons there. I’m not sure if they were courting or were annoyed with each other. One of them put on a nice aerial display. Some day I want to get a good in-flight picture of one coming toward me, rather than going away.

I saw a Red-shouldered Hawk on the hunt. It flew across my path several times. This one seems lighter in color than those that we usually see at Seagroves.

I think this next one is a lifer for me. I’m working on consolidating my life list on eBird, but it’s not fully populated yet. Merlin identified the song before I saw this Orchard Oriole. When I did, I was quite happy. (I was also happy that it chose such a nice spot in which to be photographed.)

Finally (for today), people usually have little good to say about Common Grackles. They raid feeders, raid nests, and can be an all-around pain. Yet, in my view of things, everything has a niche. Grackles are part of the world and have their place in it. And sometimes, their feathers can catch the light just right.

Tell me what you like in this post and why!
Follow the blog to get updates (I promise, they’ll be more frequent)!
